Cmix system

Distribution of moving image products in the Cmix system is performed as described below.

Fig.1 Cmix system
  1. A moving image file is divided to a "main file (.cmx)" and a "small file".
Each of the files above is incomplete as a moving image product, and can not be reproduced singly.
The technique for dividing a moving image file is protected with the patent
  2. The "small file" is stored in and managed by a server at the contents holder.
The contents holder can control reproduction of the moving image product by limiting times and a period for viewing.
  3. The "main file (.cmx)" is distributed to users through various media.
Because the "main file (.cmx)" can not be reproduced singly, copyright of the contents holder is never infringed even if the "main file (.cmx)" is copied by and distributed among users.
  4. When a user double-clicks on a "main file (.cmx)" stored in the user's PC hoping to view the moving image product, the "small file" encrypted with CM elements is distributed by streaming from the server at the contents holder in exchange with attributes of the user.
  5. When the user is exposed to the CM elements, the "small file" is decrypted and combined with the "main file (.cmx)". Then the moving image product is reproduced on a web site of the contents holder (or the copyright holder).
Information, advertisements or guidance for various services most suited to the user's attribute are provided around the moving image product, so the user can obtain additional information satisfying the user's needs, and also the contents holder can create new business chances.

Advantages provided by free copies of moving image products

Fig.2
  1. Although distributed moving image files are free copies, copyright of the contents holder is not infringed, so the users can freely exchange the copies among themselves.
  2. Transaction of moving image among users using CGM is tolerated, so it is possible to increase traffic of moving image.
  3. "Small files" are distributed by streaming, a workload to the server is substantially reduced, and therefore substantial reduction of cost for management and distribution can be expected.
